Charlie's Title Chase

The Swift Juniors also saw new drivers on the Lydden grid for the first time.  Retford driver Jake Taylor who experienced Rallycross at Pembrey last year for the first time before committing to the 2014 season along with not only new to rallycross but new to driving Jennie Hawkes, daughter of Supernational Driver Martin Hawkes.  ‘This is my first season racing and could not drive a car at Christmas so it’s all new to me.  My goal is to hopefully find some speed and get placed for the 2014 season.’ commented Jennie who joins 2013 runner up Charlie Bean and British Rallycross Grand Prix Junior Champion Drew Bellerby in the line up.

2nd Drew Bellerby                     1st Charlie Bean                       3rd Jake Taylor

Charlie Bean proved there was only one step he was interested in this season delivering a focused campaign to hunt down the chequered flag in all heats.  The final saw Bean make the best start, Taylor took his joker on the first lap which allowed Bellerby up to second which he then regained on the next lap. Bean’s joker brought him back on track between Jake and Drew where he managed to retake the lead before leaving the loose section. Experience showed when Bellerby saw the gap and regained second in this all action final were there was less than a second between the first three across the line followed by Hawkes who put gave a very respectable performance in her rallycross debut.
