Fruru Set to Fly at Lydden

Dan Wright - 12/3/12

Belgian Kris Fruru has announced he is to compete in the opening round of the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship on March 24th at Lydden Hill.

After a successful test at the Swift Open Day on February 4th Fruru has hired the Peter Gwynne Motorsport Swift for the event. Swapping his unusual but popular Nissan Primera, Fruru is excited at the prospect of racing identical, strictly regulated machines around the home of Rallycross.

A previous banger racer Fruru is not afraid of tight, close quarters racing which the Swifts will certainly provide. Kris commented 'Come the evening, I will know if I am worth anything as a rallycross driver.' The Nissan Primera may not be seen as a conventional Rallycross car but Fruru’s first ever rallycross machine was no different – a Jaguar XJ40. Another Jaguar followed, this time a 3.5 litre XJS which, to Fruru’s surprise, was very competitive on the continent. Since owning the Primera Fruru has visited Lydden frequently both racing and spectating.

Competing against Britain’s best in the Super National championship Fruru has first hand of experience of the circuit and levels of competition in the UK. ‘Lydden is by far my favourite track and the Swift Championship offers a mixture of new and experienced drivers, I am curious to see where I will be in the results' stated Fruru.

As well as experience in the Primera Kris also knows what to expect from the Swift after tasting what it has to offer at the Open Day. With snow and ice blanketing the circuit Kris lapped in competitive style, learning how to handle the rear axle brake bias and right hand drive set up. With the conditions stopping Kris from driving with 100% attack the signs look good for March the 24th.

Championship Organiser Peter Gwynne, stated 'I have to say I was nervous allowing Kris to take the car out on the snowy track at Lydden, however he showed a natural feel for the car and he provided very positive feedback on the handling and responsiveness of the Swift. The fact he is now coming back over to contest the opening round is great news, they really are fun little cars to drive and we look forward to seeing him in action at the end of the month'

It is all set for a competitive season start; watch out for the bright yellow Swift as at the wheel will be Kris ‘Belgian Blitz’ Fruru.
