Muldoon's Swift Debut

Dan Wright   15/3/12

Irishman Ed Muldoon is set to compete in the opening round of the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill. Hiring a Peter Gwynne Motorsport Swift for the event, Ed has the advantage of knowing how to handle a small, front wheel drive machine after starting his rallying career in a Peugeot 106. It provided Muldoon with valuable knowledge, which will certainly help him as he takes on Britain’s best in the equally matched Swifts.

More recently Muldoon has rallied a Mitsubishi Evo in the UK and Ireland and is looking forward to tasting the 1600cc Swifts – the same as his previous Peugeot. “It is a fantastic championship. With the Suzuki Swifts so closely matched and competitive racing throughout the field it promises to be a fun and entertaining day out" Ed commented. The rally driver has previously experienced Rallycross when he hired a RX150 Buggy last season, but only managed one off events due to business commitments.

Having his first taste of a Swift when he attended a pre event test on Saturday, Muldoon returned smiling stating "I had forgotten quite how much fun it was to race a front wheel drive. I am really looking forward to Lydden now". When not racing the London based driver can be found organising motorsport events with the London Irish Motor Club, showing he is no stranger to the motorsport scene.

Championship organiser Peter Gwynne commented "Ed is such a fun character; he has always shown great enthusiasm for the Swift Championship. Our paths have crossed many times whilst he has been out helping or supporting others so it is fantastic to have him out having some fun himself. He is sure to provide entertainment not only on the track but also in the Swift camp."

The Lydden event could be just the start of Muldoon’s Swift rallycross career, with his previous front wheel drive and rallycross experience expect to see Ed Muldoon in the black Peter Gwynne Motorsport Swift (Number 11) mixing it with the top names in the Swift Sport Championship.
