'Power Maxed' Swift Finale at New Blyton Circuit

The ultra-competitive Power Maxed Swift Rallycross Championships make a guest appearance at the final round of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship at Blyton Park on Sunday 30th November.

Featuring at all rounds of the British Rallycross Championship, the Swifts headed to Valkenswaard in Holland for round two earlier in the season which required all drivers to have a National A licence.  For newcomers to the sport such as Jack Brown, Jennie Hawkes and Jake Taylor, a licence upgrade was not achievable so early in the season so courtesy of the BTRDA, this additional round was added, and a dropped score policy was introduced, to ensure every driver had a fair chance of winning.

In the Swift Sport Championship, Tristan Ovenden has mathematically clinched the title so with a quiet run at Blyton and subject to no issues in the post-season scrutiny checks, the Canterbury driver can look forward to a season’s free racing next year. Also, there is still a battle for the silverware for second place between the current champion Graham Rodemark and 2012 champion Chris Mullen.

Deal driver Rob Maynard will also be looking for a good result as Jack Brown is only five points adrift, closely followed by Darren Scott who returns after engine issues at Croft.  BTCC Power Maxed Racing Boss, Adam Weaver, also makes a return after his debut at Croft last month.

The Championship welcomes back Andy Hawkes who borrowed Brother Martin's Swift at the previous round for his first taste of Rallycross.  Obviously liking the experience, Andy has since bought the car and now lines up as a official swift driver and the latest addition to the swift family.

New to the Swift line up is British Supercar driver Mark Flaherty, previously seen behind the wheel of the 600bhp Citroen DS3 owned by Pat Doran.  Having sampled a Swift at one of the open days hosted by Swift Sport Championship organisers Peter Gwynne Motorsport, the property developer from Wokingham was impressed with the performance of these pocket rockets and wanted to be part of the action at the final round.

Adrenaline junkie and newcomer to the sport, Jeff Hankin, will also make his debut in a Swift at Blyton. Having competed in the British Bobsleigh Championship, the European Street Luge Championship and previously having claimed second in the Moped Mayhem Series against some top motorcycle riders, Hankin decided the Swifts were next on his list of fun-filled fixes.  When not pursuing his own adventures, Hankin can be found in the pits spannering for his wife, the Motostar British Championship rider, Catherine Green.

With prize money up for grabs at each round of £300 for a win, £200 for second and £100 for third, you can expect to see some close racing from the Swifts this weekend.

MSA Junior Rallycross Championship

For the juniors, with Northallerton pair Charlie Bean and local rival  Drew Bellerby tied on points at the top of the table, there is all to play for in the MSA Junior Swift Championship, with Retford racer Jake Taylor waiting in the wings for a slip by either one to collect any available points.

With it being the final opportunity for Bean to claim the MSA Junior Champion crown, he will leave nothing to chance to try and claim this prestigious title to add to his CV.

Bellerby, meanwhile, will be equally as keen to take victory, adding her name to the trophy which includes elder sister Paige, who was the first female ever to win the title back in 2010.

Improving at every round, Taylor and new driver Jennie Hawkes from Stockton-on-Tees will be looking to end their first season on a high and being the first visit for the Swifts to Blyton Park, interest will be high as to who dominates at this new track.

Entry is FREE to all spectators for this event so why not come along for what is sure to be an action pack race day.
