Swifts Welcome Biker Woollett

Continually bringing new people into the World of Rallycross with the arrive and drive hire packages, the Swift Rallycross Championship again hits a high of first-timers take to the track at Lydden Hill, ‘The Home of Rallycross’.

One of the drivers taking the opportunity to sample this sensational sport is Herstmonceux based Chris Woollett for whom, whilst this is his first time competing in a rallycross event, has experienced the loose surface of Lydden previously when he attended a Swift Rallycross Open Day.

Woollett is no stranger to Motorsport, however most recent years have been of the two-wheeled variety.    Having got into bikes in the mid-nineties after banger racing at Arlington and Wimbledon, Woollett raced Supermoto, winning the intermediate class in his second year.

After a couple of years out, it was a GSXR 1000 that lured him back behind the handlebars and joining Bemsee (British Motorcycle Racing Club) went road racing.  An upgrade last year to a ZX10 saw the silverware start to collect and he was back on the podium once again.

Following his friend Graham Rodemark’s adventures in the Swifts in recent years, Woollett has been keen to get out there and experience what it is Rodemark raves about, so when the reigning champion Rodemark mentioned the chance to drive at Lydden he didn’t need asking twice.

Come and see how Woollett fairs piloting from the left of the LD Motorsport green machine in his Rallycross debut this Bank Holiday Monday.

Chris Woollett:  I am really looking forward to having a day out on 4 wheels, it makes it more fun when you know a couple of people on the track and hopefully I don’t finish last!!! I will be bringing some family and friends with me so No Pressure!! I would like to thank Graham and all those involved for the chance to race at Lydden and if all goes well, you never know I might have to get one.

It will certainly be something different to talk about at our local.

Graham Rodemark:   Ever since doing the Open Day, during our Friday night ritual, pint in the pub, Chris has not stopped going on about needing to have a go, but like everything with busy lives we have never got round to making it happen.

When the LD Motorsport Swift became available I was straight on the phone.  Pat and Liam were the ones who persuaded me to do the Swifts and since then I haven’t looked back.   It is so close out there, one mistake and you know about it...as I proved in Valkenswaard!

I recommend it to anyone and everyone! You don’t get closer racing, the cars are easy to maintain and there is great banter between drivers. I love it!

‘Thumps’ as we locals call him is one of those nice but slightly annoying chaps because he seems to be able    to turn his hand to most things so I am under no illusions that his debut at Lydden just means yet another Swift to look out for on the circuit, hopefully in the rear view as opposed to the front screen. Can't wait to get out there and see how it goes, good luck mate!
