Swift Rallycross Championships

Valkenswaard Victory for Mullen

Speculation was high in the Swift Camp on the visit to Eurocircuit, Holland with it being a new circuit for all except Belgian Driver Kris Fruru.

Leader after Round One Tristan Ovenden was first to take to the track in practice only to be faced with a hothatch pointing in his direction on the exit of the first corner, avoiding action saw him buried in the sand which ended his practice session.

The seven car heats got underway with returning driver Darren Scott wasting no time to show he meant business taking the win in heat one.

Chris Mullen took the win in heat 2 with the fastest heat of the day which after his disappointing result in round one with gear selector issues bagged him a valuable extra Championship point.  Local driver Kris Fruru took victory in the third heat and securing his place on the front row of the final.

The final was shaping up to be a classic door to door race.  A change of scenery for Ovenden and Graham Rodemark making up the second row in the final behind Mullen on pole, Darren Scott and Fruru. Rob Maynard and Dale Cousins complete the grid making the third row.

Mullen and Scott made the best start with Ovenden moving up alongside Kris but it was Mullen who had the inside line at the first sweeping right hand corner. Ovenden opted to take the Joker on the first lap, rejoining in fifth place allowing Rodemark to move up into third spot.

Lap two saw no change at the front. Fruru took his joker, allowing Tristan to squeeze past him. Darren and Graham then jokered on lap 3 which allowed Mullen to capitalise and gave him the distance to safely take his joker on the next lap but still rejoin ahead to the chasing pack and take the chequered flag.

After a brilliant days racing and one where the current top two drivers Rodemark and Ovenden were denied crossing the line first throughout the championship is wide open. This is what Swift Rallycross is all about! What will happen when the championship makes the trip north of the boarder to Knockhill for round 3?  Join us in Scotland, Sunday 11th May to find out!
