Win in Wales for Ovenden

The Swift Sport Rallycross Championship headed to Wales for the first time this season where the drivers were all excited for the reconfigured track layout at Pembrey Circuit, which was new to all drivers. It was winner of the previous two rounds, Morgan Bailey who set the fastest time in Q1 followed by Simon Ovenden who made his return to the championship having missed the previous round and Junior Champion Tom Llewellin completed the top three for Q1. Joining the Swifts for the first time, former double BTRDA Champion John Ward set an impressive time to take the win in Q2 ahead of Bailey and Ovenden. A fast getaway from the line saw Chris Scott take the lead in Q3 however catching a kerb sent his Swift skyward into a roll and whilst he escaped unscathed, ended his days racing. Bailey was back at the top of the table along with the current champion Ovenden who was in the top three through all qualifying heats. Ward also remained at the top of the pack in third. With four places up for grabs in the final, Bailey comfortably secured first place in the semi final one, Ward qualified too along with Christian Hainsworth and with new driver Nikita Abramov from Russia narrowly missing out to Max Weatherley who secured his place. Semi Final two and Ovenden took the win with Llewellin second and Rob Maynard in third. Scotsman Don Macleod secured the last slot in the all important final, finishing ahead of Joe Booth. Ovenden again proved why he was worthy of the champions crown as he took victory in the final. Bailey was next best in second and with a late joker strategy Ward slipped into a podium position in his first Swift Race, ahead of Llewellin. Weatherley crossed the line fifth but a missed joked dropped him to eighth promoting Maynard a place from sixth whilst Hainsworth and Macleod completed the finishers.
