Layton Swaps Kart for Car at Lydden Hill

Joining the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship for his Rallycross debut, Will Layton prepares to take the step up from a kart to a car at none other than the ‘Home of Rallycross’ Lydden Hill, this Bank Holiday Monday.

Layton first raced in the Junior TKM back in 2016 where he went on to win the championship in his first season. He has since moved up to X30 Junior and then Senior X30 in winter 2017.

Racing has slowed down this season as studying for his A levels at Silverstone UTC has been the priority but Layton is keen to challenge himself further by making the move into racing a car and where better than where the sport first started, Lydden Hill Race Circuit where he will pilot a Peter Gwynne Motorsport Junior Suzuki Swift.

Having visited the southerly circuit for the previous Bank Holiday Easter BRX meeting where he was supporting friend of the family Mark Higgins who competes in the Supercar Class, Will was keen to get in on the adrenaline-fueled action himself.

“I wanted to make the transition to car racing and especially rallycross because it's the best racing, most exciting and really puts a show on for the crowds, a true spectator sport. I am very lucky my parents have given me this opportunity to make my Rallycross and Car debut.” says Layton.

“My Dad has had a huge part in my ‘motorsport bug’! Before I was born he had already bought me a little 50cc Suzuki quad bike! My Mum is so supportive and even my little sister Darcey has been amazing, getting dragged to race meetings and never complaining, they have made this all possible.

The transition to cars will not be an easy one but I am looking forward to developing a new skill set and the challenge that comes with it. I can’t wait to get on track, everything changes and plans go out the window as soon as a race starts so that's what I'm looking forward to.

I am remaining realistic going into the weekend but equally would like to have a good result for my debut but we shall see how I get on.” If you are visiting Lydden Hill this weekend be sure to pop by and show him some support. For ticket information visit www.lyddenhill.co.uk
