FLYING START FOR FLITNEY AT SILVERSTONE!
The Swift Sport Rallycross Championship got underway at Silverstone in fine style as Max Weatherley and Chris Scott entertained the crowds from the off, with a race-long battle that was narrowly edged by Weatherley. Reigning Junior Champion Tom Constantine did not disappoint with a strong third place in the opening qualifying.
Chris Scott’s continued his front-running form taking victory in Q2, just under a second ahead of Dominic Flitney. This time it was Russian driver Nikita Abramov who claimed third in his Peter Gwynne Motorsport hire Swift.
Dominic Flitney Flying High at Silverstone
Q3 delivered one of the top performances of the day, with Dominic Flitney leading from the exit of turn one on the opening lap where he extended his lead until the chequered flag fell. Second place went to Constantine, again showing he’s a force to be reckoned with this year, while Chris Scott, with an impressive performance all day, finished third to make it a top three finish in all qualifying heats.
Tom Constantine eased to victory in the first semi-final after Abramov who whilst crossing the line first, failed to serve his joker and the thirty second penalty demoted him to fifth. Junior graduate Will Layton scored second with Chris Scott third. Improving with every outing, Newcomer Tom Henson claimed fourth on what was more than a solid debut.
Close racing all day from the Swift Sport Chamapionship
Max Weatherley was first in the second semi-final, followed closely by Dominic Flitney. Former Autograsser James Chisman took an impressive third in his rallycross debut, ahead of Ian Flitney and Joe Booth. Booth endured a mixed day, missing out on a place in the final, yet still demonstrating good pace.
The final was a closely contested battle between Tom Constantine and Dominic Flitney, however the reigning junior champion Tom Constantine narrowly missed out on overall victory due to a magnificent drive from Dominic Flitney to claim the win by 0.6 seconds. Max Weatherley took the final place on the podium to finish 3 seconds clear of Chris Scott. Will Layton showed great skill to finish 5th on his senior swift debut, ahead of James Chisman, Tom Henson and Ian Flitney who all demonstrated their potential for future events during their first Swift outings.
The championship heads to the ‘Home of Rallycross’ Lydden Hill on Bank Holiday Monday – 22nd April 2019.
