Congratulations to Junior Swift Driver Patrick O'Donovan who's skills have been recognised seeing him one of the chosen few, selected for the Motorsport UK Academy Squad.
This world class development programme set up by the Motorsport UK, identifies, develops and supports talented drivers aged 15-24 who demonstrate exceptional potential to progress through the competitors’ pathway in to the Team UK programme and beyond.
The Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship is dedicated to highlighting talented young drivers, with identical cars, regulated fuel, tyres, a minimum weight and post season engine and gearbox checks, talent rather than budget is the focus to determine the winners.
This mixed surface discipline, gives the ideal foundation for young drivers to develop their skills on both asphalt and gravel, a perfect foundation to progress up the Rallycross ladder as shown by 2013 champion Kevin Hansen, or try either rallying or circuit racing as their careers progress if they wish.
O'Donovan showed consistency throughout his first full season competing in Junior Rallycross, being the only driver to score a podium place at every round. By round seven the young Irish man was leading the championship after scoring his first win at Lydden Hill.

Into the final weekend, tied on points with 2018 runner up Luke Constantine, it was down to the final race of the season where he was only one point adrift of claiming the coveted Junior Rallycross crown.
We are pleased his efforts have been recognised and he is one of the select young talents in the country to be chosen to be part of the Motorsport UK Youth Squad.
